TOK Blogs of the Week: Ethics!

Victoria, in her post about the ban on "Burkinis" in France, does a great job of articulating the considerations of individual rights (women who choose to wear the burkini) when they come into a perceived conflict with the authority of the state (which intends to keep France a secular society).

The moral reasoning is complicated here.  Have a look at the debate.

Ella looks at the work of two surgeons who propose an alternative or compromise to the practice of female genital mutilation.  Is it simply an embodiment of moral relativism, or have they come up with an ethically suitable alternative to this traditional practice?  This post provides an analysis.  Her systematic, thoughtful review is worth a read.

Anjali's post on the ethics of tourism and of dressing in a style that conforms with the cultural norms of a country presents some fascinating thoughts about what it means to be respectful of a culture and what it means to live outside of one.  Her musings on appropriate behavior -- and her meta-musings on her thinking -- are great food for thought.
